Electricity Tariff Reduction effective April 1st 2020

NUKU’ALOFA, TONGA (23rd March 2020) — After consultation with the Electricity Commission, Tonga Power Ltd is pleased to announce a reduction of power tariff to 75.67 seniti per unit effective 1 April 2020. This is a 7.49 seniti per unit or 9.01% reduction from the current tariff of 83.16 seniti per unit. The fuel tariff was reset to 37.00 seniti per unit for this quarter. The table set out below provides details of the new electricity tariff.

NUKU’ALOFA, TONGA (14th November 2019) — Tonga’s second Large scaled Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will be built at Matatoa after an agreement was signed today between Tonga Power Limited and Akuo Energy SAS, an energy company specializing in developing and operating renewable energy power plants. Akuo Energy were also the successful contractor for the first grid stabilization battery which will be located at Popua power station

ELECTRICITY TARIFF INCREASE FROM CONSUMPTION AFTER 1ST NOVEMBER 2019

 NUKU’ALOFA, TONGA (1st November 2019) — Tonga Power Limited hereby notifies all electricity consumers in Tonga that the Electricity Commission has approved the new power tariff of 81.20 seniti per kWh, an increase of 4.1% from 79.90 seniti, effective from 1st November 2019. Despite the increase in the price of diesel, TPL had managed to successfully hold the level of electricity tariff unhanged between 81.20 to 79.90 seniti per kWh between July 2017 and October 2019.
