Project Summary
Project Outcome – Technical power losses and climate vulnerability of the electricity of the electricity network in Nuku’alofa reduced.
a. Network restoration time shortened to 2 days – achieved.
b. Distribution network loses in Nuku’alofa reduced to 8% from 10.5% - ongoing.
c. Greenhouse gas emissions reduced by 38 tons per annum – ongoing.
Output 1: Nuku’alofa electricity network system improved.
- 16.5km of 11kV medium-voltage network rehabilitated and upgraded:
There is currently eight point four two kilometers (8.42km) of high voltage ABC conductor installed. This reflects fifty-one percent (51%) progress of the required target.
- 50.0km of 0.4kV low voltage network in seven villages rehabilitated and upgraded:
For the low voltage network, a total of thirty thousand kilometers (30.0km). This reflects sixty percent (60.0%) progress of the required target.
- 1,240 customer connections (including all households headed by women) climate-and disaster proofed:
There are currently eight hundred and forty-five (845) customers with upgraded connections to the low voltage and high voltage connections. This reflects thirty percent (46.5%) progress of the required target as the total number of customer connections is 1814.
- 59 new households connected:
This target has been achieved in September 2024 of eighty (80) new household connections. To date there is one hundred and one (101) new connections, and this figure will continue to grow with more customers developing their properties for residential and commercial purposes.
- At least 28% of technical workers on the project sites are women:
There are currently fifty-seven (57) personnel in the project team with sixteen (16) women personnel that hold technical roles or twenty-eight percent (28%) of the total population and 36 (62%) of males with technical roles. This target has been achieved.
Output 2: Project implementation capacity and gender inclusiveness of TPL operation enhanced:
- Project management supported through consultancy services – achieved.
- Development of gender mainstreaming capacity – ongoing.
- TPL staff, including at least 30% women trained on project management -achieved.
