Trees touching power lines and branches falling on them are a proven risk to public safety, resulting in unscheduled power outages. Please keep trees and other vegetation that you own at your premises from encroaching on power lines from the minimum distance set by Tonga Power. The minimum distances from the power lines under all conditions specified by Tonga Power e.g. high wind, are:
Overhead Line
Growth Limit Zone
11kV-High Voltage
2.0 meters
400V/230V – Low Voltage
1.0 metres
If you are unaware of the growth limit zone please call us for more information. If any of your trees are near power lines and need to be trimmed, for your safety, please get professional assistance. Children should not be allowed to play in trees that may be contacting power lines.
Should you spot any power line touching any vegetation, do not attempt to trim or cut the vegetation. Always treat every line as being live regardless whether they are sparking or arcing.
