Electricity Tariff Reduction effective 1st November 2020

NUKU’ALOFA, TONGA (26th October 2020) – During the period between July and September 2020, the price for fuel had increased from 1.1205 pa’anga per litre to 1.2433 pa’anga per litre. This increase in fuel prices during the quarter has resulted in an increase on our electricity tariff from the current electricity tariff of 61.02 seniti per kWh to 63.82 seniti per kWh and was approved by the Tonga Electricity Commission to be effective on the 1st of November 2020.

Electricity Tariff Reduction effective 1st July 2020

The tariff set back in April 2020 $0.7300 per kWh, Government of Tonga (Shareholder) subsidised $0.08 kWh Lifeline Tariff (known as Government Policy Obligation or GPO), to all residential customers consuming 100 or less kWh of electricity per month. The new electricity tariff of $0.6102 per kWh was approved by the Electricity Commission to be effective from 1st July 2020.

Electricity Tariff Reduction effective 1st April 2020

The tariff set back in November 2019 of 83.16 seniti per kWh was subsidized by the Government of Tonga (shareholder) to remain at 79.90 seniti per kWh up to March 2020. The new electricity tariff rate of 73.00 seniti per kWh was approved by the Electricity Commission to be effective from 1st April 2020.

Diesel prices have increased steadily from July 2017 ($1.1784 per litre) to November 2018 ($1.8531 per litre) and only reduces last 3 months to February 2019 ($1.4407 per litre).
