	The Common Utility Board has announced the appointment of Mr. Setitaia Pasivaka Chen as the Acting Chief Executive Officer for Tonga Power Limited effective as of 1st August 2018. Mr. Robert Lenes Matthews work contract as CEO expired on 31st July 2018 after completing a 3-year term. Read More

Princess Latufuipeka offer food for TPL line mechanics

	Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika Latufuipeka Tuku’aho, High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Tonga to Australia today donated food for the Tonga Power line mechanics. The food donation will assist the 80 staff that have dedicated their time and effort to get power back on to all homes and businesses following the wrath of Tropical Cyclone Gita. Read More
Five Large Generators to Provide Immediate Power Connections in Villages
	Australia is providing up to $3.5 million in humanitarian assistance to support the response to the crisis in Tonga. The funding is supporting the provision of five large electricity generators. Read More


Australian Linesmen Arrive to Aid in Electricity Restoration

	Additional line mechanics have arrived to assist Tonga Power with restoration works of electricity in Tongatapu. The Minister for Public Enterprises and Health, Hon. Dr. Saia Ma’u Piukala through the CEO of Tonga Power Ltd (TPL), requested emergency assistance from the Government of Australia and New Zealand to help restore power in the aftermath of Cyclone Gita. 	The Chairman of the combined utility board, Mr Carl Sanft presented a cheque of $7,319,219 to the Minister of Public Enterprises, Hon. Poasi Tei as the utilities combined dividend and tax for the 2016/2017 financial year. Read More

Northpower to Recruit Six Line Mechanics from Tonga Power Ltd

	In June 2013, Tonga Power REached an arrangement with Northpower Ltd of New Zealand, to recruit 10 linesmen. Prior to that arrangement, 13 linesmen were recruited by Northpower. Read More

King Commissions Tonga’s Largest Solar Farm

	The “ Matatoa Solar Farm – Tonga’s Largest Solar Facility” commissioning ceremony was held today at Tofoa. Officiated by His Majesty, King Tupou VI, the commissioning marked a new milestone in private sector investment in the development of renewable energy generation in Tonga. The project is the first large scale Independent Power Producer facility to be installed in the Kingdom. Read More

Maate Ma'a Tonga Visit Primary Schools

	As part of their community engagement programs, the Mate Ma’a Tonga today visited various primary schools in Tongatapu. Four “cool” Mate Ma’a Tonga guys made the school student’s day at Puke Primary School. Siua Taukei’aho, ‘Ata Hingano, Daniel Tupou and Tevita Pangai visited the young fans today where they delivered words of encouragement to the students and distributed jerseys, rugby water bottles, books and hats amongst other gifts. Energy Minister Admires Solar Farm During Visit

China based Zhuhai Singyes Green Building Company Ltd, one of Asia’s leading solar energy companies, welcomed the Minister of MEIDECC who is also the Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon. Poasi Tei to the solar facility in Tofoa for a guided tour of the first project to be installed by an Independent Power Producer in Tonga.

Line Mechanics Receive NZQA Level 4 Certificates

Sixteen line mechanics currently working under the Tonga Village Network Upgrade Project have successfully completed their New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply. The training is supported by the New Zealand funded Tonga Village Network Upgrade Programme, which is helping to upgrade the electricity network in 50 villages in Tongatapu.

Honorable Sovaleni Launches First Solar Power Plant in ‘Eua

The Huelo ‘o e Funga Fonua solar facility was officially commissioned today by the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni at a ceremony held at ‘Ohonua, ‘Eua.The commissioning ceremony comes after five months of construction since the preliminary site works began in August 2016.

Rooftop Solar Panels Help Vava’u Hospital Save On Power Bills

In October 2016, a contract agreement was signed between HE Gerard Tiedemann, Ambassador for the Federal Republic of Germany to Tonga and the Ministry of Health for the supply and installation of a 20KW solar system at the hospital.
